How to Replace an replacement audi key fob G28 Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is situated near the edges of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are several pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully functional, it should read around 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this part, check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when i start the engine with no sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, but i think i've pretty much eliminated everything else. But i am afraid I may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a number of problems within your vehicle.
